The worldwide online music platform DiscovrTV has launched a campaign called #HomeConcerts together with local partners:
Musicians from all over the world play live 30-minute concerts from their home, which are streamed live via vimeo and facebook pages. Through the duration of the campaign, viewers can make donations for the musicians on a fundraising platform, by purchasing a ticket, paying towards a paypal or purchasing artist’s merch.
During this COVID-19 pandemic musicians are being robbed of their livelihood and are unable to earn a living due to venues closing and festivals shutting down. DiscovrTV as a global community wants to help the artists to survive.
#HomeConcerts is a joint action of DiscovrTV in London, Prague, Zurich, Hanoi, Vienna, Cape Town and Johannesburg; PockitTV in Johannesburg and MTN, African based partners.
"We want to provide a platform for the artists who have no other opportunity to perform now and earn a living”, says overall coordinator and DiscovrTV director Marie De La Montagne, who operates in Europe.
“These live streams will be broadcasted on all our digital platforms as live streams for the public and then kept there for a review, and our goal is to raise funds through these live stream shows through several donation platforms," says co-director Julian von Plato in South Africa, who is also providing the technical support of this campaign.

In contrast to the DiscovrTV-sessions, where a crew records the musicians and a presenter interviews them, the #HOMECONCERTS sessions take place at the musicians' homes. For social-distance reasons the crew will not be on site, but will only instruct support and coordinate remotely.
"We have the contacts and we have the know-how – it is clear to us that we have to carry out such an action in these times", says Swiss DiscovrTV producer Christoph Soltmannowski. "I am happy to be able to support various artists around the world with our Discovr TV network," says Kobus Kotze, producer of DiscovrTV Hanoi.
Marie de la Montagne says: "Many musicians have already applied and we will live stream several shows a day. We have also approached industry partners who significantly suffer in the current situation, and we have been approached by many who want to participate in the campaign.”
The team expects to soon be able to present three shows a day as a livestream on the channels (simultaneously Vimeo and Facebook). In each case, the donation link to the platform gofundme is included. The total amount will be distributed to all participating musicians in equal shares after the end of the campaign.
All activities are carried out in strict compliance with the applicable hygiene regulations and social distancing measures.
Musicians can apply to Marie De La Montagne, firstname.lastname@example.org.
