Listen to this song somewhere in a mountain hut with a fireplace and a warm blanket.
Marie: Kateřina, how did you start out as an artist and how did Bechy & Fee come around?
Kateřina: I have started as an artist couple years ago, in 2013 to be exact. I recorded my first single Love is a journey, which was produced by Jamaican drummer and producer Paul Kastick.
I played with DJ first, then in a couple bands, then I had my own band that Filip was part of. The band fell apart after some time and Filip and I wanted to continue, so we have started to practice, creating new songs and we spontaneously let a project Bechy & Fee come into being.
Marie: You performed your new single Večernice – what is the single inspired by? What is the story behind it?
Kateřina: New single Večernice was written and composed by Filip. He found inspiration in book called Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus. I remember when he was telling me about this book, and he mentioned that he could write a song about it. I liked that idea. It was actually our first song written in our native language, with a spontaneous video from the recording studio and it's nice to see that people sing it with us at concerts. Večernice is also played this month on Country Radio.
Marie: Is your songwriting a stream of consciousness type writing or more planned and thought out? Is there an underlining theme in your music?
Kateřina: My lyrics describe mostly the stories that I was part of. It is mostly spontaneous writing. Lately I am looking for inspiration in other people's stories, creating my own versions. It's different every time. Sometimes the idea comes right away, and the writing goes by itself, sometimes we just have to persevere and try it again and again. Filip is much faster and more organized, mostly bringing the finished lyrics and together we’re just fine-tuning them.
Marie: What is your dynamics as a duo, do you share the songwriting process?
Kateřina: Yeah, we are sharing what we have discovered, what inspires us almost at every rehearsal.
Marie: Do you think there is a perfect time and place to listen to the single, does it lend itself to a particular listening experience?
Kateřina: First place which came to my mind is somewhere in a mountain hut with a fireplace and a warm blanket. The second place where it would be nice to enjoy this song is definitely at our gig.
Marie: If you could hope that your music inspires someone to do something, what would that be?
Kateřina: Not to be afraid to do what we want or what we enjoy. If you want to sing, sing. If you want to dance, dance. If you want to say something, just do it. Once one girl told me, that I was her motivation to move on with singing, to have a band and that was the best reward.
Marie: Tell me more about your musical influences? Are you hoping to achieve a certain sound or theme on your new release?
Kateřina: We try not to stick too tightly to any one sound. We are trying to be ourselves, give to listeners the same feeling we had. However, there is a lot of lovely music which inspires us.
Marie: What do you guys find to be your biggest success as an artist?
Kateřina: I dare to say that for both of us it’s a success every time that our music grabs someone's heart, when people sing with us and people's decision to spend their time with us at our gig.
